Sensha

Real Time Strategy Game, 2019

Gameplay Videos

Introduction

In Japanese, “Sensha” means “tank”, an armored vehicle used in combat. The tank has become a symbol of power and stability and has made its way into comics, movies, television, and video games. In strategy games like “Arma,” “Battlefield,” and “Supreme Commander,” tanks are slow, cumbersome, and expensive, but they provide a significant strategic advantage if placed and used correctly on the battlefield.

Inspired by these strategic placements and investments, I created Sensha, a real-time game that allows the player to become a master strategist in modern battlefields. The game challenges players to make difficult decisions, invest limited resources, and place different tanks strategically to ensure a decisive victory.

The Project

I was tasked with creating a program in Python (possibly with libraries) for the Informatique et Sciences Numérique exam of the Baccalauréat 2019. The project had to be limited to 2D visualization and not be too ambitious or time-consuming to complete. The finished program had to be functional and have few or no bugs.

Product Objective

The goal of this project is to allow us as young developers to discover the different stages of creating a program in Python and to be challenged by formative problems. I wanted the product to be entertaining, placing the player in an imaginative and immersive setting, which they control. The aim is to encourage players to think about their actions as every decision made in Sensha can have positive or negative repercussions on the game’s progression. Ultimately, the product aims to stand out from others through its original content, thus avoiding any trouble with intellectual property.

Product Proposal

Every project begins with an initial idea. My initial idea was to create a “Brick Breaker,” but this project did not seem ambitious enough. That’s why I proposed developing a strategy game in the style of our childhood games like “Castle Attack”; “Heavy Mach Defense” or “Age of War”. This game must combine strategy and management elements in the style of large RTS (Real-Time Strategy) games. The subject of the game is the tank, around which all strategic issues revolve.
